Work Logs: Week 5

Week 5: February 27, 2017-March 3, 2017 (13/53 hrs.)

This week I returned for Friday which is great because that is normally my favorite day of the week. It was also a great week because every show we did had really high energy with very lighthearted segments and plenty of jokes. We were able to laugh a lot on and off air which I think made a big difference. When I left the studio this week I was reminded exactly why I love and why I chose to pursue this profession.

Tasks completed this week:

  • Performed in on-air segments

  • Shared personal stories to engage and relate the audience

  • Worked on the giveaway contests

  • Answered phones and awarded giveaways

  • Filed winner sheets

  • Made a calendar for Mr. Scott which provides the broadcast and start times for the Shorebirds games

  • Worked with different employees

Things I learned this week:

  • I’m able to learn a lot about how the show should sound according to the way Mr. Scott and Mr. Wilson’s react to each other’s performance. In between air time, they critique each other if need be, but usually in a funny way.

  • Following that, I learned a lot about healthy ways to communicate with a coworker in situations like this. I really like their way of comradery and teamwork because it doesn’t need to be harsh in order to be successful in communicating what needs to be communicated. There is definitely no yelling, talking down to one another, or discouraging in order to be effective.

  • You can tell Mr. Scott and Mr. Wilson have been working together for a long time because they have perfect chemistry between them. They perfectly balance each other out and they know what the other is capable of. I realized the importance of this because it is one of the sole reasons their show is so smooth and entertaining.

  • We perform the best on-air when we are feeling the best off-air. I wholeheartedly believe our energy translates over to how we sound and the quality of the work we produce.
