Work Logs: Week 4
Week 4: February 20, 2017-February 24, 2017 (9/40 hrs.)
This was a very interactive week on the show for me which was really fun. During all three shows I was able to participate in almost every segment on-air. Throughout the whole week I’ve really felt like I’m improving, especially with my comfort and knowledge of what it takes to run a show like this.
Tasks completed this week:
-
Presented segments on the show
-
Researched and created the trivia questions for the giveaways each day
-
Successfully pitched three ideas for promos for the Whiskey & Randy Show
Things I learned this week:
-
I observed Mr. Wilson quite a bit during this week because when we are on-air, he is manually controlling the sound board. Everything you hear is done by him in real time and I was really interested to find out what he does to accomplish what you hear. As I watched, I noticed sometimes he takes the volume of the bed track that plays behind the sounds of our voice so it doesn’t ever hinder our speaking. Sometimes he also uses this technique to create dramatic effect when we pause speaking. It is also fascinating to watch him quickly edit all of the pre-recorded audio from listeners and fix it to sound fluid on-air. The last thing he does is sound effects. He is so natural at this point that he can manage to do all of this, focus, and speak on-air at the same time.

I met the Watermelon Queen on our area, Mrs. Wigglesworth. She came in for an interview during the week because she was leaving to go to the national competition. I had no idea that this wonderful program so it was nice to hear about her story and the program’s identity and goals.
